Shelly: Welcome to the Pulse Insurance podcast, where we discuss the latest insurance trends in consumer and commercial insurance in Oregon and Washington. I’m your host, insurance agent Shelly Campbell of Pulse Insurance. I’m joined today by Oregon insurance agent, Doug Hartley, of InsureSource Agencies. Say hello, Doug.
Doug: Hi. Thank you for having me on the show. What’s new and exciting in the normally boring world of insurance?
Shelly: Not so sure anything about insurance is exciting except the people we get to help.
Doug: I couldn’t agree more.
Shelly: I came up with today’s topic that I’d call, “Boiling the frog,” based on a phone call I just had with my customer named Tim. He’s been my client for a few years now, and his auto insurance premium seemed to increase a few dollars at each renewal for no reason.
Doug: So, he has had no changes to his driving record and hasn’t moved?
Shelly: No. In fact, his car keeps getting older, which means it depreciates in value and has a clean driving record. Car insurance companies adjust their rates every few months, and they always say, some policies will go up and some will go down, but on average the premiums will be some percentage increase or decrease. Tim seems to always be in the increasing category.
Doug: I’m guessing he called you this last renewal?
Shelly: He did, and he was on my list, but beat me to it. I noticed a sizable jump in his premium for the next six months, again, for no apparent reason.
Doug: Ah, I see where this is going. The old parable of the Boiling Frog. The poor guy swims around in the pot of water as it heats up slowly, oblivious to what is happening until it’s too late.
Shelly: Yes, and if he jumps in when it’s already boiling, he’ll jump right back out. This time the water got too hot too fast, or rather his premium took such a big jump that Tim decided it was time to bail.
Doug: Were you there to catch him before he got away?
Shelly: Haha. Funny guy. Yes. I helped Tim switch insurance companies with all the same coverages for about two-thirds of the price.
Doug: Aaah, back in the warm but not too hot tub. Speaking of hot tubs, that sounds pretty good now that the false spring is over and back to cold temperatures again.
Shelly: Just don’t stay in too long if it gets too hot.
Doug: Thanks again for inviting me on your show. Perhaps you’ll join me over on my channel on InsureSource.com.
Shelly: That sounds great. Can’t wait to see what boring topic you come up with.
Doug: Hey now. I’m not that boring.
Shelly: I’m your host, Shelly Campbell, and this has been the Pulse Insurance Podcast. Join us next time as we explore the exciting world of insurance, helping you save money.
Doug: And if your insurance pot is getting a little too hot, give Shelly a call and she’ll help bail you out.
Shelly: Thanks for that, Doug.
